Hey there! Welcome! I am so happy to meet you.

I'm Mrs. Downes and I'll be your child's 3rd grade teacher! We are a lucky bunch because we are the only self contained class in 3rd grade. I'm so excited to have you a part of my first year at SFISD.

This will be my 6th year teaching in the classroom, but it is a lot of "firsts" as well. This is my first year teaching in Texas as well as being in the 3rd grade! The past five years, I've taught in Oklahoma and in 4th or 5th grade.

My husband, Mr. Downes, and I are moving all the way from Maine! We were there only for 6 months, and prior to that, we've been living in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma our entire lives. All of our family is from Broken Arrow, so that is "home" to us. Maine was a great experience, but we are definitely excited to be back in familiar territory!

We have a dog named Kelso and he is such a good dog. He's well traveled, as he has made the drive to and from Maine and down here to the Houston area. Thankfully, he loves car rides. I spend a lot of time walking Kelso, but he is a rather chill dog. I love animals, they are my passion. When I was younger, I wanted to be a vet... but I ended up being a teacher, which I am thankful for!

Like I said, I've been teaching for 5 years and this will be my 6th. I graduated from Oklahoma State University with my bachelor's in Elementary Education, and I am currently in a master's program with Kansas State for Curriculum Instruction. I am ALMOST done, as I only have 2 more classes to complete my program. One day, I hope to be a professor at a university and help train new teachers into the education field. But for now, I enjoy being a classroom teacher, connecting with my students, and implementing new and fun ways to learn.

I'm so happy you're here. Welcome to my classroom! You are loved, you are enough and you belong here!
