H.E.R.O Binder

So, what is a H.E.R.O Binder?

H.E.R.O = Helpful, Excited to Learn, Responsible, Organized

The H.E.R.O binder is a 3-ring binder that students use every day to develop organizational skills and develop responsibility.

This 3-ring binder houses EVERYTHING students and parents need to keep
up-to-date with what is going on at school.

Gone are the days of wrinkled papers and lost notes, newsletters, or calendars.  Everything you need is in one notebook!

So, if you want to know what the "hype" is all about in Mrs. Hunt's Kindergarten Classroom just look in your child's H.E.R.O Binder..

Here is how it is organized:

Inside Front Cover

Notes from the school office.    Please remove these papers.

Money & Important Notes Pouch

This pouch is to be used to send notes to the teacher that need immediate attention, such as transportation changes, doctor's appointments, urgent concerns, etc. From time to time, you may need to send money to school for book club orders, field trips, etc.  Please use the pouch to send money to school. Please make sure to label what the money's for.  Please do not use this pouch for school supplies.

Contacts Page

Ways to contact me and other staff members will be shared on the contacts page.  Please keep the contact’s page in the H.E.R.O binder.

Class Newsletter

I will update our newsletters normally once a month.

Alphabet Chart

The alphabet chart can be used to help your child review their letters and sounds.  It will also come in handy when your child starts to write.

100’s chart

This chart can be used to help your child learn to identify their numbers and count to 100.  When your child is first learning to count.  Have them look at the chart as they are practicing each night.  Once your child is comfortable with counting have them count without the chart.

Phonogram Chart & Word Wall Words

Use the phonogram chart to help your child review the phonograms.  Your child will also learn many high frequency words in Kindergarten.  We call these words “snap Words.”   Santa Fe ISD requires all kindergarteners to be able to read 50 high frequency words by the end of the year.  A phonogram chart and listing of Word Wall Words are included in the H.E.R.O. binder for review at home.

Letter Practice

Use these sheets to help your child practice their capital and lowercase letters nightly.  You might wish to make flash cards of these letter so your child is not always practicing them in the same order.

Reading/Homework Folder

Inside this folder you will find your child’s homework and reading calendar.  Make sure that your child returns all completed homework by Friday to this folder and you record their reading on their reading calendar nightly.

Book Pouch

This pouch will contain your child’s level readers, phonics fluency list, word list and sight word folder.  Your child should practice reading these books, phonics fluency and sight words nightly.  Books, phonics list, word list and sight word folder should be returned the very next school day.  Make sure to record your child’s reading on their reading calendar.

Inside Back Cover
My Super Work

Any class work, art projects, finished take home books, etc… will be placed in this pocket for you to take out and keep at home.  I strongly encourage you to keep all of our small reproducible take home books in a box/special place at home for the children to reread throughout the school year.  They will be amazed at how many little books they will have by the end of the year.
