Jennifer Cunningham

Personal Education Background:

After graduating from Alvin High School, I attended community college in Alvin.  I continued to further my education and  attended University of Houston: Clear Lake. While being at UHCL, I earned my bachelor’s degree in biological science, my teaching certification, and my master's degree in History.

Personal Interested:

Faith, family, and my pets are very important to me.  Faith is my center pole in my life and helps keep me grounded in what is important in life.  As a child, my amazing mother and father showed me the importance of family time.  Our family loved going to the park, eating dinner together, bowling, putt-putt, movies or playing board games. As an adult, I enjoy spending time with my parents and my brother doing similar activities as we did when I was a child.  In addition, I have shown the importance of family time to my daughter as making memories with her is very special to me.  Pets are part of my family and are special to me.  Over the years, I have had gerbils, hamsters, turtles, dogs, a horse, and even fostered a kitten for a year.  Currently, I have 4 dogs, 2 fish tanks, and 2 Betta Fish tanks.

Teaching Experience:

I have 20 years of experience as a teacher and have taught in districts in the Houston area.  In the past 20 years, I have taught a wide range of courses including Biology, Aquatic Science, Earth and Space, Food Science, Forensic Science and Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC).  This year is my 8th year at Santa Fe High School. 

This year, I will be teaching three different courses.  I have the privilege of teaching Human Anatomy and Physiology (A&P).  I have taught this course since 2019 and love to show students the importance of how the body works together to create a healthy lifestyle.  The second course I will be teaching is Astronomy.  I am really excited about showing students the importance of how exploring the planets, moon, sky, sun and much more can provide such breath taking experiences and understanding our our planet plays a role in the universe.  scientific details help law enforcement solve crimes.  This is the first year I am teaching this course.  Finally, I have the privilege of teaching Dual Credit United States History.  I am eager to show students the importance of how past events connect to our current situation and create a pathway to our future.  I have taught this college level course at SFHS since 2022.

Teaching is a special gift.  It truly gives me joy to provide students with information that allows them to be well-rounded citizens who will help shape the future generations of the world.  If there is anything, I can assist you with or if you have any questions, please contact me so I can further help the student achieve success.
