Welcome, Families!

My name is Kari Keown, and I am thrilled to be your child's teacher this year!

This is my 18th year in education, and my 8th year with Santa Fe ISD. I am certified in both general and special education, as well as ESL. I have taught PPCD for 3 years, ABLE for 6 years, and kindergarten for 6 years. I am very excited to be starting my 3rd year in 2nd grade!

A little bit about me... After graduating from the American School of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, I earned a bachelor's degree at the University of Denver in Colorado. Once I moved to Texas in 2001, I began pursuing a teaching career at the University of Houston - Clear Lake, while working at one of my favorite stores- Half Price Books.

My husband and I have two wonderful daughters who are in 9th grade and 7th grade here in SFISD, and we have a black lab and 11 chickens. We love living in Santa Fe!

A few of my favorite things... Colors: green and gold (of course!); Drinks: Coke and Dr Pepper (I'm not a coffee or tea drinker), Food: tacos; Fast Food: Sonic; Desserts: Blue Bell; Candy: Snickers; Movies: The Sound of Music, Moana, and Sing 2; Books: Harry Potter and Dog Man; Stores: Target and Amazon; Hobbies: reading, visiting bookstores and public libraries, board games, jigsaw puzzles, STEM activities, baking, traveling, and spending time with my family.

Communication between home and school is essential. My conference time is from 2:05-2:50 each day. You may call me at 409-927-3455, email me at kari.keown@sfisd.org, send me a message on Class Dojo, or send a note in your child's daily folder.
