Welcome to the SFJH Dance Program. I am excited that you have chosen to be a part of this department.  This may be your passion or you may be brand new to dance; either way I look forward to having you in class.

Course Objectives:

  • To develop technique skills in dance.
  • To introduce students to various genres of dance.
  • To achieve proper dance alignment and balance.
  • To instill an appreciation of dance and movement based performances.

Grading Policies:

  • 50% Daily Participation
  • 40% Written Tests, Skills Tests, and Projects
  • 10% Dressing Out

 Weekly Grades: You will receive 20 points per day of class, which equals 100 points for the week.  Points will be deducted for the following reasons:

  • No t-shirt or workout pants = 10 points each
  • Wearing jewelry = 5 points
  • Not dressing out in proper attire on time/tardy = 5 points
  • Not participating, demonstrating movements, or sitting out = 20 points


Dressing Out:

  • Students are expected to dress out daily in appropriate clothing, unless otherwise instructed. These points may not be made up. If you forget your clothes, you are still required to participate.   
  • Each student must have dance attire by August 26th.

If you are not in class, you will not receive your participation points (20 points) for that day.  If you are out with a school related absence, you do not need to make up this work.  All other absences require make up work.  Please see Mrs. Davenport for assignment.


Dance Supplies:

  • 1 spiral notebook or composition notebook
  • ANY color t-shirt or Spirit t-shirt (black is preferred)
  • ANY color workout leggings, jazz pants, or sweatpants (black is preferred)
  • Shoe options (only one) -Black or tan jazz shoes, ballet shoes, foot undeez or bare foot
  • Hair bands
  • Small dance bag (with name on it)
  • Name on everything!!!
  • $15.00 Class Fee- Students will be provided a dance t-shirt that will be worn for the dance show in the spring. Order will be placed when all money is collected.

Class fee due by Monday, August 26, 2019 - Give to bookkeeper Mrs. Janice.

Checks made out to SFJH Dance.  Please have phone number on check.


Dance Class Guidelines

  • Students are to use the restroom before and after class only, unless it is an emergency.
  • Students are not to leave or interrupt the class while in session.
  • Students will get dressed within 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, grade deductions will be enforced.  Students should observe and perform the combinations that are shown to the best of their ability without talking. 
  • No side conversations are allowed. This will result in a deduction in the student’s conduct, grade and possibly detention.
  • Food, drinks and gum are not allowed anywhere in the dance locker rooms and studio!
  • Students must raise their hand if they have a comment or question.
  • Students must obtain permission from the teacher before leaving any dance class.
  • Students must keep hands, feet and other objects to themselves.
  • Students may not use the dance class time for academic homework.
  • Please discuss concerns with Mrs. Davenport privately and calmly.


Dance Locker Room Guidelines

  • All personal items must be kept in the assigned cubby or locker.
  • Locker/dressing rooms are only for students dressing out for class.
  • NO food or drinks are allowed in the locker/dressing rooms.
  • NO CELL PHONES are allowed in locker/dressing rooms.
  • All students must keep their hands to themselves. No verbal or physical fighting will be tolerated.

**Violations of these procedures may result in disciplinary consequences/office referrals.  Student

may lose dressing room privileges and may be assigned alternative assignments.
