Below are general descriptions of the courses and what students might expect. These are not course syllabi. Specific course content varies year to year and class to class depending on many factors. 

Introduction to Theatre Arts

This course is intended for beginning acting students interested in dramatic acts. Students will develop imagination, observation, and concentration skills while engaging in creative theatre exercises. Students will also condition their bodies to be expressive. Students are introduced to the art of theatre through improvisation, pantomime, storytelling, characterization, voice and diction. Students will learn the basics of theatrical productions as well.

  • Theatre Safety & Etiquette
  • Theatre Games
  • Fundamentals of Acting (voice & diction, stage movement, rehearsal etiquette, roles, etc.)
  • Puppetry
  • Improvisation & Pantomime
  • Monologues
  • In-Class Presentations
  • Lip Sync Battle
  • Making a Commercial

Theatre Arts I

This course is an intermediate class where students expand on what they learned in Intro to Theatre Arts in order to create more complex characters and productions. Students will deepen their theatrical skills through activities such as character development, improvisation, directing and script writing. They will also take part in multiple in-class performances.

  • Readers Theatre & Radio Theatre
  • Technical Theatre: Set Design
  • Writing a Biography
  • Lip Sync Battle

Theatre Production/Theatre Arts II

This course is an advanced class where students deepen their theatrical skills by participating in fall and spring productions as well as the UIL One-Act Play Competition. These students should have taken Intro to Theatre Arts and Theatre I. The class goal is to create theatre students who will be successful in the high school theatre programs.
