Bio

I am a retired Texas police officer with 35 years of experience. I have a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology and a Master's degree in Criminology. I have taught for the past 10 years at a local community college and wanted to start teaching High School students so they would be prepared for success in college and beyond. Children are our future and should be prepared for the future. I believe that learning is a life long endeavor and should never end.

My phone is 409-927-3231 and

My Email is bruce.honings@sfisd.org

I can be reached easier through my e-mail than my voice mail. Leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. The attached document will be handed out in class (or it can be downloaded from here) and needs to be signed and returned for a grade.

Important Note:

I am currently on medical leave from school taking care of some serious medical issues. My Classes are being handled by a long-term substitute, Tariss McGilberry, who is a  very capable and experienced teacher. I am including her Bio. as well:

"I have been in the Medical Field since I Graduated in 1993. Due to an accident in 2011, I am unable to work on my feet for extend periods of time, I found my love for teaching when I basically fell into an Adjunct Position at College of the Mainland. I had to take a leave from the college when I required multiple surgeries during a semester, which is when I began substituting for the district. I have three children, my oldest graduated in 2018, a Junior who is in Tribal Bells as well as F.F.A. and Fire Safety Club and my youngest a  Sophomore who plays Football.

In all classes we are working off of ICEVonline.com, it is a self paced website, I only open up the section we are currently working on, each student has their own special log in and password. Each student knows how to log on as well as how to check their grades, any missing assignments, as well they know they can see how many times they have attempted an assessment and if they are able to retake the assessment if there grade is not as high as they would like. Student Notes and Vocabulary are daily grades, Assessments are Quiz grades and Final Assessments are Major test grades.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at tariss.mcgilberry@sfisd.org, I will get back to you as soon as I can. My conference is during 7th period (1:45-2:35)"
